Salah satu elemen penting dalam kalimat berbahasa Inggris adalah adanya prepositional phrase. Prepositional Phrase terdiri atas prepositional (PREP) dan objectnya (O). Object dalam preposition bisa terdiri atas kata benda (noun) atau pronoun.
Berikut adalah beberapa contoh preposition:
about, above, across, after, against, along, among, around, at, before, behind, below, beneath, beside, besides, between, beyond, by, despite, down, during, for, from, in, into, like, near, of, off, on, out, over, since, through, throughout, till, to, toward(s), under, until, up, upon, with, within dan without.
Berikut yang biasaya harus diperhatikan dalam preposition dan preposition phrase:
- Dalam bahasa Inggris, kebanyakan penempatan "place" diletakan sebelum "time".
- Contoh: We went to the school in the morning (penempatan to the school diletakan sebelum in ther morning).
- Terkadang, sebuah prepositional phrase berada di depan kalimat.
- Contoh: In the evening, I see him.
